Tales From The Sun

Laughing

Like Thursday, Laughing is more popular with others than with me.  I guess I just can’t abide “jang janga langa langa” guitar. I played it on both songs though, no one to blame but me!

This was written after I drove a friend of mine to a secure ward of a psych hospital to attempt to release her friend who had been arrested and interred the previous evening on drugs charges.  The friend was very much “away from it all” still when we arrived and simply sat in her restraints alternately screaming for her freedom and “laughing” hysterically.  The song is written metaphorically from her point of view.

I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
Ooooh, when they asked me for more, I just walked out the door and away.
Ooooh, someone called me a clown and the word went around all the day.
But,
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I, feeling lost and alone, I just hung up the phone and I read,
High, every line that I wrote tangled up in my throat and my head,
But,
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?

So many people with nothing to do,
But polish their shoe, and see what I drew,
So many people with too little care,
But they comb their hair, making holes in the air,

I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?

I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
I laugh a lot, I, I laugh a lot, don’t I?
