Lyrics

Tales From The Sun

Melanie Moonbeam

This is a love song – there’s a blinding flash of the obvious!  However, it is a predictive love song.

The object of my affection was a fantasy at the time of writing, like a moonbeam, hard to picture and impossible to touch.  It is written to her that was out there somewhere.

In a cryptic form it contains the questions I would ask her such as, “Now that it all seems behind you, during the lonely times, how did you keep faith that you would find love?” This is the meaning of the first two lines.

There’s no meaning to the “Oooh luk a ta ta” thing except a refusal to sing “la de da” and having no lyric for that bit. I’m always surprised that people think there’s some meaning in that.  When this was released as a single one radio station refused airplay because they thought I was singing something naughty.  I thought it was obvious that the lyric doesn’t get risqué until the end of the song!

Melanie Moonbeam, now that it all seems,
How did you know it was going to be you?
Melanie Moonbeam, lost in your own dream,
How did you know it was going to be you?

Melanie Moonbeam, satin and sweet cream,
How did you know it was going to be you?
Melanie Moonbeam, where has your love been,
And how did you know it was going to be you?

And in the morning sun I’ll be waiting,
To lay you down on dreams I’ve been making,
Roll away ‘cos I may want to play in the love you bring to me.
Take me in, we begin, will you win with the song you sing to me?

Melanie Moonbeam, satin and sweet cream,
How did you know it was going to be you?
Melanie Moonbeam, where has your love been,
And how did you know it was going to be you?

Swing high, Melanie Moonbeam,
Swing low, Melanie Moonbeam,
Swing up, Melanie Moonbeam,
Swing round, Melanie Moonbeam.
