Witchy Man

Nothing to do with witchcraft, this song is a dialogue with my deceased mother.  She had a habit of saying, “It’s hard to be a witch,” when she made predictions for the future, most of which did not eventuate.

However, having been raised by her and with only my sister for company in my early years I became one of those men that thinks much more female than male.  Many of my closest friends having been women I always find it easier to relate.  This can be unnerving for men who don’t know me and women who assume I think atypically male, which in turn, has caused difficulties in my life.  So herein I’m saying to my mother, “If you think it’s hard to be a female witch, try being a bloke witch!”

Mind focused on the far away, sticking to the plan,
Faith healer in this cartoon play, that’s the witchy man,
Speaks softly in the light of day, moves by dark of night,
Thrill-seeker in the market-place, slipping out of sight,

He’s the one out on a limb, muscles on his tears,
He’s the tide against the swim, pressure on the peers,
This is the way that we’re feeling,
This is the day that we can,
And if you think it’s hard to be the witchy woman,
Try to be the witchy man.

Builds your castle in the air, rides into the sun,
Try to call him if you dare, doesn’t wear a gun,
This is the way that we’re feeling,
This is the day that we can,
And if you think it’s hard to be the witchy woman,
Try to be the witchy man.

This is the way that we’re feeling,
This is the day that we can,
And if you think it’s hard to be the witchy woman,
Try to be the witchy man.

This is the way that we’re feeling,
This is the day that we can,
And if you think it’s hard to be the witchy woman,
Try to be the witchy man.
